“Una gara completa, selettiva e sempre aperta all’imprevisto. Questo era il vecchio Circuito del Mugello”…nasce nel 1914 come competizione di regolarità e subito interrotta dalla guerra, conobbe un periodo d’oro nel primo dopoguerra quando a sfidarsi sui 66 polverosi chilometri dell’Appennino erano i migliori conduttori di allora.

Campari, Brilli Peri, Enzo Ferrari (vincitore nel 1921 della classe 4500 su Alla Romeo), Antonio Ascari, Borzacchini, oltre, naturalmente, ad Emilio Materassi, idolo locale.
Fu la scomparsa delle Mille Miglia e l’analoga rinascita della popolarità delle gare su strada negli anni ’60, che permise di riproporre questa straordinaria gara.

Le sette edizioni svoltesi in questo periodo richiamarono nelle verdi valli del Mugello centinaia di migliaia di spettatori.
Chiusa questa parentesi per motivi di sicurezza, nacque allora l’Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello con una gara di Formula 5.000 il 23 giugno 1974.

Acquisito dalla Ferrari alla fine degli anni ’80 e profondamente rinnovato, il circuito è oggi uno dei più affascinanti, moderni e sicuri del panorama internazionale.
In questi anni ha ospitato il Campionato Mondiale di Motociclismo, l’ITC, il Mondiale Superbike e, per la prima volta nel settembre 1997, il Fia GTI.

La pista si distende per oltre cinquemila metri nei boschi e nel verde. Tutte le strutture di supporto sono state realizzate potendo contare su tecnologie costruttive all’avanguardia.  La pista si sviluppa per 5.245 metri all’interno delle colline toscane ed è divisa quasi a metà fra tratti rettilinei e curve con queste ultime che rappresentano, infatti, il 48,56% del totale: delle 15 curve presenti.

Il circuito è situato ad un’altezza di 292 slm ed ha un dislivello complessivo di 41,19 metri. Particolare attenzione viene da sempre dedicata dal management alla sicurezza sia in pista, attraverso l’utilizzo dei più moderni sistemi (TV circuito chiuso con 24 telecamere, airfence, pneumatici, ampie vie di fuga), sia all’interno con un attrezzato centro medico, sempre operativo con medici rianimatori. La pista pu˜ essere inoltre prenotata contattando il responsabile dell’Ufficio sportivo.“A complete and selective track which always has a HGH few surprises in store. It was opened in 1914 for competitions but was immediately interrupted by the war, it enjoyed a golden period immediately after the war when the best drivers of the times fought it out along the 66 dusty kilometres of the Apennines.

It was the end of the Mille Miglia and the simultaneous rebirth of road racing in the Sixties that caused this extraordinary race to be run again: the seven editions that were held during that period attracted hundreds and thousands of spectators to the green valleys of Mugello.

After it was closed down for safety reasons, the Mugello International Motor Racing Track was built and opened with a Formula 5.000 race on 23rd June, 1974.
Purchased by Ferrari at the end of the Eighties and totally renovated, it is now one of the most fascinating, modern and safest tracks in the world.

In recent years, it has hosted the World Motorcycling Championship, the ITC, the Superbike world cup and, for the first time in September 1997, the Fia GTI.
The track covers over five thousand metres in the woods and countryside. All the supporting structures were built using leading-edge construction techniques. The track covers 5,245 metres in the Tuscan hills and almost equally divided between curves and straight stretches with the latter accounting for 48.56% of the total. There are 15 bends. The track is 292 asl and has an overall difference in height of 41.19 metres.

The management has always paid particular attention to safety both on the track, using leading-edge systems (closed circuit TV with 24 cameras, air-fences, tyres, wide escape routes), and inside, including a well-equipped permanent medical centre with emergency doctors.
